Choir Director

Becky Adams

Becky Adams has called Pilot Point home since 2003. She is originally from Ohio, but grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona. Prior to moving to Pilot Point, she spent some time in the east living in New York, North Carolina, and Vermont. Becky has attended Pilot Point First United Methodist Church since 2003 and became a staff member as Music Director in 2013.

She married Joe in in 1989 in Flagstaff, Arizona; and they have two wonderful children, Jeanette and David, and one amazing granddaughter, Madalyn. She serves the Pilot Point School District as a one-on-one special education aide. In her spare time, Becky enjoys solving logic problems, working crossword puzzles, reading, and cooking.

Becky’s favorite scripture is Psalms 118:24, “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Becky says that this scripture reminds her that no matter what happens in life, God is in control; and she can rejoice in that.

Pianist

Barbara Huggins

Barbara was born and raised in central Illinois where her father and her father’s ancestors farmed.  The family farm, homesteaded in 1847, is still owned by her and her brother.  Barbara came to Denton, where she continues to live, in 1964 to teach Latin and French at NTSU(now University of North Texas).  She retired in 1999 which is when Barbara Vick, then a member of this church, urged her to consider becoming the church pianist. She started playing for PPFUMC  in January 2000; over 24 years ago.

Her husband passed away in 2020; she counts her blessings that she has a loving family, many friends, and her church family for support. She has a daughter and a son, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, most of whom live in the DFW area. One grandson and his family live in Seattle.

One of her pastimes is playing the ancient Chinese game of MahJongg and would be willing to teach it to anyone in the church interested in learning how to play.  She also enjoys traveling each summer to Colorado.  She and her husband bought a cabin in the San Juan Mountain Range in 1985 and have spent many wonderful summers there with family.  When asked about her musical
talents, she says “music has always been a healing and spiritual exercise for me, so I feel very fortunate to be able to play for Sunday services and the Christmas cantata.  You might say that music and playing for the church is my favorite pastime.”

Administrative Assistant

Janie Elmore

Janie Elmore lives in Whitesboro but grew up in Pilot Point. As a life-long member of PPFUMC, Janie enjoys seeing where the church leads her; she has served on committees, currently works in the church office, and serves on the prayer group. Janie loves history and happily serves as the church historian. Janie’s mother once told her that the Methodist Church was where all of her ancestors worshiped. She later found a pocket Methodist Discipline with her great grandfather’s name inscribed inside the cover and discovered that he was a circuit rider in the Methodist Church.

Janie was a nurse for over 40 years but continued taking classes at North Central Texas College (previously CCC). She has an Associate of Science in both Nursing and Computer Information. Janie has a housemate named Ella, a half German Shepherd/half Malamute that weighs in at 90 pounds. Janie’s favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
